Dorm Areas Allen Hall
Dorm Areas Allen Hall I live in apartments now, but I spent my first three years at Florida Avenue Residence Halls, and they were some of the best years of my life. As a new Illini, you might be wondering where to live. The easiest way to find out where you belong is to visit campus on the weekend and see what each residence hall is like on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon. The reason I say that is youll generally see what the vibe is like at its truest form when its the weekend and people have the free time to do what they want. As a result, youll get to see what each area likes to do. Heres my experience with what each residence hall is like. A lot is based on experience, some is what Ive heard from others, and some might be generalizations. Its important to remember the school is large enough that youll fit in wherever you live. Having said that, heres the rundown of a blog series, starting with: Allen Hall Overview: Allen Hall is typically known as the most diverse dorm. Whether youre a racial minority, LGBT, an artsy type, or whatever your background may be, Allen will welcome you with open arms. Cautions: People say the food isnt the best here, and the building can feel a little cramped and old. Perks: Its right next to Campus Recreation Center East (CRCE), so even in the worst weather, making it to the gym (free weights, basketball/volleyball courts, racquetball rooms, aquatic center, etc.) is no problem. Allen Hall also houses the Living-Learning Community Unit One, through which you can apply for courses that youll take within Allen Hall itself. Its great for taking subjects of interest like piano, film, gender studies, and more! Its also just a block away from a string of restaurants that include gumbo, Thai food, and a Korean-style cafe. I'm from Naperville, Illinois.
